I have leveled up in the gunnie world today. In addition to the extra hit points, I now have a bunch of skill points allotted to “Craft Ammo”. That’s right, i have finally joined the ranks of the reloaders.

Which of course is the purpose of this post, i need suggestions for good loads for .45 Colt that roughly approximate the ballistics of the original loads. A 250 grain bullet at about 800 fps would be great for a lot of applications, with the added benefit of not blowing up any of my cartridge conversion revolvers. I decided to just start with .45 Colt for a couple of reasons, foremost of those being that I have a ton of brass sitting around that I’ve collected in that caliber. The 2nd reason is that even though I don’t shoot a lot of .45 Colt, the 100 or so rounds a month that I go through in that caliber easily makes it one of the most expensive things that I shoot, since a box of 50 goes for about $30-$35, which means that I can spend upwards of 70 bucks on ammo for just 100 rounds. Even if I get the cost down to $15 a box, it’s still going to cut my cost of shooting in half, which means more shooting for me.

I also need/want advice on powder - I know next to nothing about selecting a powder for reloads. I had heard that Trail Boss was good, but honestly I don’t really know all that much about powders and reloading.

Any and all advice is helpful. Oh yeah, and I need a mallet.

One of the neat things about it to me is that it culminates in an actual championship match that is held live.

Aside from the obvious potential to use this as a training tool for people who already shoot action sports, I really dig the idea of using this to get people like my wife hooked on action shooting.

I’ll be following the development of Action Airgun closely.

You’re not very bright, are you? You seem intent on shooting off your big mouth to whomever you can, and since you’re saying stupid things like “let’s start a civil war” all you’re doing is helping the anti-gun faction ban our guns.

I know that’s a difficult concept to grasp, but you see, there are these people out there in the country, and most of them aren’t educated on the gun issue at all. That means when Suzy opens her daily paper and sees you say that gun owners are ready to start shooting cops, she thinks that all gun owners are as crazy as you are, when in fact we’re not.

The problem here is that we’re winning the fight to keep and bear arms, so instead of being smart about things and playing it cool, you’re making it sound like we want to start shooting cops and civil servants, which is a pretty dumb thing to say.

I get really tired of crap like this - because all it takes is one Mike Vanderboegh to undo all the good, hard work that people have been doing. Negative impressions “take” with much certainty and are much harder to dislodge from the minds of the public than a positive impression. That means that the aforementioned Suzy could have had dozens of positive experiences with gun owners and be warming to the issue, but then she could read what ol’ Mikey writes and start to think that maybe we’re all bunch of crazy nutbags.

Thanks for nothing, buddy.

You know, every time Josh Sugarmann writes an editorial for the Huffington Post, it just gets a little more sad. I mean, now he’s trying to claim that because S&W is making a DC vs Heller commemorative revolver that they’re walking in the blood of people killed with .38s. Nice, Josh, way to keep the debate classy.

And that isn’t counting his repeated personal attacks on Alan Gottlieb - he just can’t go an editorial without bringing that issue up over and over again.

Of course, maybe he’s just worried that he’ll keep getting calls to transfer firearms, since he actually has a Federal Firearms License, one of the very few FFLs in Washington DC.

You know what? Here’s the VPC’s phone number: (202) 822 8200. Since they’re one of a few FFLs in Washington DC, let’s all give them a call and see if they can transfer one of those new S&W commemorative revolvers to a DC resident. Really, we’re doing Josh a favor, since one of the conditions of holding a Federal Firearms License is that you have to be engaged in the business of transferring firearms.

Again, that number for the VPC is 202-822-8200, ask them about whether or not they plan on doing transfers for DC residents.

Thanks again to everyone who listened live to last night’s show with Philip Van Cleave of the Virginia Citizen’s Defense League. If you’d like to listen again, you can click this link to listen to the archive copy.

There were a lot of good points made during that interview, but I wanted to focus on the last point made by Philip before he signed off: “An attack on any of our guns is an attack on all our guns” - the point that we need to hang together and recognize that if someone attacks hunting rifles it’s the same as them attacking handguns, shotguns, or anything else.

Obviously, a lot of excellent points were made, especially in the area of individual activism, and how even in a pro-gun state like Virginia you can have a lot of work to do to defend our right to keep and bear arms. To listen to the entire show, click this link.
